Current status and future planning of decommissioning in FUGEN

Tezuka, Masashi

no journal, ,

FUGEN was approved the decommissioning program in 2008, and completed the tritium removal and dismantling condensers which are large-sized equipments in about 10 years so far. Also, based on the approval of the change in the decommissioning program, the completion of the discharge of spent fuel was extended in 2026. Furthermore, we will conduct a dismantling mock-up test using SUMADECO, which started operation in June 2018, to begin the dismantling of reactor core structures to be started in 2023, and verify the disassembly procedure.

Overview and point of Monju spent fuel removal operation

Tozawa, Katsuhiro

no journal, ,

Since Monju shifted to decommissioning with the fuel assembly in the nuclear reactor, it is decided to take the fuel assembly removal top priority by the year 2022 in the first stage of D&D plan. Fuel removal operation is carried out using fuel handling and storage facilities (such as Ex-vessel transfer Machine and fuel cleaning facility), but since experience of processing and storage of actual fuel assembly has been limited so far, sufficient preparations were made. As of October 3, 24 fuel assemblies have been taken out from Ex-vessel transfer tank. 100 fuel assemblies are withdrawn during this fiscal year, and 530 fuel assemblies are withdrawn by FY 2022. We will make the dismantling plan of the second and subsequent stages.
